What is meant by "There are no grants" in reference to starting a business/launching a product?
I asked earlier about the steps that should be taken in launching a new product with limited personal resources, and several people answered that "There are no grants". They did not go into detail, and I wish to know more on the subject. Thank you for your time.

- It means you need to obtain financing or use your own cash. Nobody will give you a grant of free money.
- What they probably meant is that the Federal Government does not give grants to start businesses. So many people think they can get a grant through the SBA; however, they can not. They were probably trying to tell you, in short, you need to get a small business loan and/or provide your own money to finance your business. *****EDIT***** After reading your other question, I would like to add; there not being any grants is not entirely accurate. You may need to do some digging and research. Since it seems this is an invention/technological endeavor, there may be organizations which will help you without requiring you to pay back the money. For instance, in Pennsylvania, there is a program called "Ben Franklin Technology Partners" they help with financing, and they have a business plan competition which provides a grant to the winner. The grant is paid out as different milestones are met. Do some digging, contact your local Small Business Development Center (they too should have information on Patents), and good luck
- There aren't too many details needed. Your tax's are not spent giving business owners money. If you need money you borrow it. The government does lend to small business, go to http://www.sba.gov for details on how to apply for a small business loan.
