  1. Magic, because there are none. If there were, everyone would be in business for themselves.
  2. Are you in the UK and unemployed ? IF so, you can ask to see a Business Advisor at the job centre You need to provide them with a robust Business Plan and you 'may' be considered for a business start-up grant of between £500 - £1,000 but it depends on your individual circumstances My husband was made redundant and was successful in getting start-up funding.
  3. The Federal government does not provide grants to start up businesses unless there is a new research idea behind the business and the business is one of high national priority or security (i.e., if you had a new idea DARPA was interested in, you could get some seed money to continue research - but you would still need additional financing to get the company off the ground). For most people, the only possible means of grants would be if a private foundation had an entrepreneur program or if your state or local government had a business development grants program. However, with the state-level budget crunch, these programs have been pared WAY back if not outright eliminated and the competition for the money is extremely tough. Your better bet is to write a business proposal and go see your local banker for a business loan.
  4. There are such things as IDA (Individual Development Accounts) that help you save money to start a business and they will match you. Some companies match $3 to every $1 you save. They usually require you to take a financial management course, and there are different time periods for saving, ranging from 6 months to 5 years.
  5. There are no commercial grants.
