How and where do I register my new business as my new source of income ?

I have a brand new photography business and I need to know how to register to get those permits or papers that go up on the wall that says "its legal for me to sell photo services because I pay my taxes" etc..additional information is appreciated. Thank you .

1. You should be able to get this done at your city hall. In my area this is where I went to get my business license. Even though my business is at home and I don't sell products...I have to have my hanging up in my office area.
