Business Starting Grants

I have purchased new equipment to establish a lawn care business. Any ideas for getting customers?

I have the equipment and employees to easily handle residential and business lots up to 3 acres. I need suggestions on how to market my new venture. Any success stories?

  1. Put flyers up around town. Run an ad in your paper. Get listed on Google Local. Get a free website. Go door-to-door in neighborhoods where people are either too busy to do their own lawns or are older and need help. Offer a discount for any customer who sends you a referral. Tell everyone what you do. Put a sign on your truck with your phone number. Leave business cards with the tip when you eat at a restaurant. Hang your flyer or business cards on cork boards at restaurants. Get some shirts made with your company name, a logo showing what you do, and your phone number. People will often stop and ask you about your business. Good luck!
  2. Absolutely! First, you have to find a way to convince people that they would be better off hiring someone to care for their lawn as opposed to saving money to do it themselves. It's all about your market! Do not waste your time with penny pinchers. You are not going to sell a furnace to the devil. First off, I would go to apartment complexes, villas, and other "Maintenance Free Lifestyle Places", ask them who cares for their lawns and see if you can beat the competitors. Secondly – with which businesses would you do the best referrals? Could you pass referrals to any people? People who would hire someone to care for their lawns would also probably have someone clean their house. You would do very well to become friends with “maid services” (I don’t know what they’re called). You can refer your clients to them, and they can refer their clients to you. Thirdly – advertising is such a waste of money. The people making money in the situation are definitely the printers! I can’t tell you how many thousands of dollars I have wasted on well-written advertisements that have had no (or essentially no) return. People are not looking at newspapers anymore for services. Word of mouth and referrals are your key. Fourthly – GET INTO A B.N.I. (Business Network International). Do it and do it now! Their business is REFERRAL! You will make no better move than joining your local B.N.I. www.bni.com. Please do that!
  3. you need to be seen. how about local cable TV ads. pick your target group locations what shows are on what time is best so most viewers are watching. make sure name and phone #s are large. catch the consumers attention so they remember who you are. flyer's, cards. truck adds .need to be seen !!!! Offer some free work to churches rental halls at any place many people will see you. Do something that gets the local newspaper to write how good hearted you are. etc etc etc. sales and marketing classes are very helpful
  4. It's tedious, but going door to door every evening will work. I know Realtors who do this, and it works, but you must be persistent and try to call on at least 75 doors every day.
  5. obituaries of husbands that died widows always need lawn serviced hung flyers on mailbox
