- Hi There are actually no "real" Grant for starting a business, unless your idea is some how will save the world like fixing the ozone layer, or alternative energy...I have look into this before...The other alternatives are: home equity loans, Friends, family, or worse Venture capitals... - Grants for a for profit business are just another urban legend. You will have to apply for a business loan. For that, you will have to write a business plan. Go to http://www.sba.gov/starting_business/ or http://www.bplan.com/ where you will find sample plans and instructions on how to write a business plan. Take the business plan to a bank or other lender who will review it and either lend you some or all of the money you requested or reject you. Don't be disheartened if you are rejected. Every bank has different criteria for loans. Starbucks went to over 350 lenders before someone said yes.
