Government grants (free info) For Starting a small business?

How do I obtain information about getting a grant from the Government for starting a business? Are you able to use the money for buying into a franchise? Who do I contact either by mail, e-mail, or telephone? Located in Oregon.

1. Don't be fooled by those ads, the government isn't passing out money for you to start a business. You can get an SBA loan that is insured by the government, but you still need to come up with some of your own money. Grants are usually set aside for science, or agriculture endeavors not small businesses. Try asking your bank for some more financing alternatives, they are usually willing to help you through the process. Good luck
2. Go to http://www.grants.gov for a list of government grants and how you can apply for them. Sadly, unless you're starting a daycare, there won't be any for you.
