What do you think of my business idea?
My idea is to find the best tutors in my area, combined with the cheapest rates and set up a business where I advertise and people call me for a recommendation for tutoring. I would keep contact to hear feedback and I would interview tutors. I could either charge the tutors or the people looking for tutors. Is this already being done? I would be providing referrals for private at-home tutors mostly. I have many ways of finding these tutors. It can be difficult to find a good tutor. Most people rely on personal recommendations from people they know and trust. I went to find a good calculus tutor to replace myself and it took me 3 hours to find the first well-qualified individual. About 6-8 hours before I was satisfied that I had found one of the best in my area for an affordable price. Another reason this would be good is that in my experience (as a tutor) nobody wants to negotiate prices with me, as it probably seems distasteful to do so. With my service they could be more confident they're not getting ripped off.

- What's to prevent the parents from finding their own tutors themselves?
- Yeah, it's called a school...and they charge the students
- This sounds like something similar to lets say Sylvan Tutors. It just depends are you looking to be a referral source for people who have been to places like this that can maybe do in home tutoring?? I guess I would need a little more detail to understand truley what you trying to achieve. It sounds like a good business plan b/c schools these days need all the help they can get along with busy parents who just dont have the time to help their children succeed in academics. I would like to get some more detail on this if you wouldn't mind. :) Ok after reading that you would basically be like a temp agency for academic tutors. The clients would pay you a small fee and you would pay your temps based on the assignment and length of the assignment. It doesnt seem like its a bad idea, but make sure you not getting in over your head. Make sure you look cost wise so you know you can afford it. In order to operate a business even out of your home temporarily you have to be licenced with state and the fact that you will be suppling and educational service you might have to make sure you are qualified with the state and tested. But as long as your confident in yourself and have the knowledge to do it I would say go for. The only bad business idea is the one that was never given a chance.
- Yes its being done in lots of places have a look in the Yellow Pages.
- the main flaw in this idea is that advertising is often underestimated....that will cost you a whole chunk of money ...and next time dont blurt ur ideas out aloud for every1 to know what u r doing...
