How do i protect my business idea, before starting out?

I believe I have an excellent idea for a new business or I could even link it to an already established company. As a single mum I can recieve some assistance through centrlink. Before I go approaching anyone I would like to know how to protect my Idea incase it really takes off!! Also any other advice re funding etc. would be appreciated as I have no capital.

1. i would get legalized, i would get the idea Patten make sure you have an original idea and it's not something commonly use or do, to get a patten is expensive and quiet long to do, due to all the paper work they have to do
2. actually if its just any IDEAL then all you hve to do is write a NO DISCLOSER CLAUSE. then make anyone to whom you tell the ideal to, to sign it. & that should protect you for a while.
