Business Starting Grants

I am disabled (with epilepsy) and want to find out where to get government grants to start a small business?

I have been searching for information on where to get a small business government grant for the disabled for a few months now and can't find anything on it. I have Epilepsy and am trying to find if I am eligible? Does anyone know where I can get information on this? Thanks

  1. I to have a handicap, and am ready to start my own business. I have also been searching for government grants. I took a course for business at my local community college, my teacher was a volunteer for S.C.O.R.E. (retired entrepreneur), she told me that the government does not give grants to people with handicaps, unless the business is a non-profit entity. Hope this helps you out and good luck in your future venture.
  2. I don't know if there is any grants for that but I do know that there are some options out there that can help anyone. I have been working from home and with a company that has its aim in helping regular folks get above what they thought was impossible. This company manufacturers natural products for health, wellness and a greener environment. These type of products are used by every household on a daily basis and cost less than leading brands that are more pollutant. Make a safer home for your family and at the same time earn money by showing others that they can save money and provide a safer home for their families. All the while having a greener impact on the environment. It's a win/win situation. This company has shown more growth in a recession than most. 2009 is your time to shine! 3. I am not disabled but a very business-minded person, I was also searching for governments grants to start a small business, I was directed by my good friend who's also a CPA, to have a talk with http://www.trustedgrants.com/smallbusiness I was able to get a lot of information from them and they also help me qualify for a government grant to start my daycare at home with my wife. Hope you find what you're looking for...
  4. It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for starting a for-profit business. One possible exception is for companies developing or exporting agricultural goods, including food and forest product. Another exception could be the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs http://www.sba.gov/aboutsba/sbaprograms/sbir/index.html , which fund the research and development of technological innovation that meets specific government needs. Your best bet actually will be from the states if they offer grant programs for women (or any other special interest groups -- minorities, women, disabled, veterans, etc). Or check with non profit organizations, particularly women organizations if they offer grants. Examples include Iowa Women's Foundation http://www.iawf.org/ New Mexico Women's Foundation http://www.nmwf.org/guidelines.html Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/mostrequesteditems/CON_FAQ2.html "The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments." Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.
